Happy Thanksgiving

We were invited to a Thanksgiving dinner of our neighbour, our “Nova Scotia Family”. Every year, they invited us to their family gathering. We feel so welcomed and heart-warming. I usually bring some dessert, but this year, I brought something different. Someone had this brilliant idea. I saw this on SNS photo, and it was […]

Sunset Kayaking

Sam and I had a sunset kayaking for about 30 minutes, just about 2km round trip to catch the falling sun. The water was very calm and the wind was gentle, and it was very relaxing. I can’t believe that it was my first and probably the last kayaking for this season.

The Change of Colours Ceremony

The colours refers to the flags used by the military and our band had an opportunity to provide the music to the ceremony of changing from the Queen’s Colours to the King’s Colours. The regimental flag identified the troops and marked the rallying point for army regiments in the line of battle. It is no […]

Fitness Challenge Mini Triathlon

I completed PO2 Craig Blake Memorial Fitness Challenge. It is a mini triathlon for military and DND personnel, consisting of a 300m swim, a 6.5K mountain bike and a 2K run. It was short, but very tough. It was a perfect day for this event. I didn’t have to wear a wetsuit which takes times […]

Autumn is in the air

The busy summer is over and autumn is in the air. My favorite autumn, the most colorful and peacful of the year, feels so short and fleeting. A tree growing on the side of the road along my jogging path was fruiting bells of small apples.

Mini Rhubarb Pie and Baked Cheese Cake

I made mini pies with the first harvest of rhubarb I’ve had since a friend of mine gave me a rhubarb plant to share three years ago. I love this sweet and sour rhubarb pie. I love watching the rhubarb grow each summer, and it’s fun to imagine what kind of pie I’ll make next […]

Natal Day Parade

In Nova Scotia, the first Monday in August is Natal Day, a day to celebrate the history of Halifax and the Dartmouth area. Natal” means birth in Latin, and it is said that Natal Day, which started in 1985, was originally intended to celebrate the arrival of the railroad line in Halifax, but due to […]

Relaxing spot by the lake

Sam assembled an outdoor couch, and placed it under the gazebo at the deck by the lake. This became totally a place to unwind. It is cozy and relaxing. There are not many mosquitoes by the lake, but the insect nets are even more comfortable!

Burgundy Dream Falls

Thunderstorms brought extreme rainfall to Nova Scotia around Halifax area. Our house was almost hit by the sudden waterfalls from the backyard hill. The water was very fast and in no time we had a pool in the backyard. If we had left it unnoticed, it would have flooded through the front door. We built […]

Prince Edward Island – Confederation Bridge

There are two ways to get to Prince Edward Island (PEI) from Halifax: by car over a bridge or by ferry, and Charlottetown, the capital of PEI, is about a 3-hour drive from our home in New Brunswick. There is a bridge between New Brunswick and PEI called Confederation Bridge, which is 12.9 km long. […]
