Lakeside Mornings in Nova Scotia
As July draws to a close, I’ve started to notice the sun rising later. The air feels just a little cooler against my skin, a subtle sign that summer is slowly coming to an end. After an hour-long run, I slow down on my way back, taking time to cool off and photograph the wildflowers […]
It’s that time of year again—Pride Parade
What began in 1988 with just 75 brave marchers has grown into one of the largest celebrations of love and diversity in Atlantic Canada. This year, the Halifax Pride Festival drew over 90,000 participants, with thousands lining the streets to cheer on the parade. I had the joy of marching once again, this time to […]
Cherry Picking
We visited Dempsey Corner Orchards in Aylesford, about 130 km from Burgundy Dream B&B. It’s a lovely spot for u-pick fruit and u-dig veggies. It was our first time cherry picking and we were amazed by how the trees were covered in fruit! We brought some home and made a delicious cherry pie.
Fishing Fun at Lake William

The other day, Sam also caught a chain pickerel, another species that must […]
Celebrating the Ship Hector’s Return

This restored square-rigged vessel, which symbolizes the beginning of Scottish immigration to Nova Scotia over 250 years ago, was celebrated with a grand relaunch event—complete with a powerful splash and stirring music. I had […]

It was a segregated non-combatant unit, the first and only all-Black battalion-sized formation in […]
Fresh Vegetables from my tiny garden
I bought some salad greens with roots still attached from the supermarket and decided to plant the roots. To my surprise, they grew into an even more lush and vibrant bunch than when I first bought them! I did the same with green onions, and they just kept growing—eventually even sprouting flowers. This is my […]
Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo
Including the virtual show in 2021, this year marks my fifth time attending the Tattoo. This time, we were treated to a spectacular performance featuring military bands from Germany, the Netherlands, and Norway, as well as a dynamic all-female Drum Major group from the UK. At the heart of the show was the outstanding Stadacona […]
